At The Courville Communities, our philosophy is to provide fully integrated memory care in the least restrictive environment as possible. Many of our staff members are trained providers of dementia care, with certification from the Council of Dementia Practitioners. We operate under the guiding principle that everything we do is designed to enhance the lives of our residents. Generations, a geriatric psychiatric group affiliated with The Elliot Hospital in Manchester, provides oversight of the care of our memory impaired residents and visits each center weekly to see their patients.

We believe in dementia-specific programming, allowing our residents to live in the “here and now”, giving our residents a positive experience.

Specific programs designed for our memory impaired residents include:

Therapeutic Recreation – supports the mental and physical health of all our residents and includes walking group, exercise groups, art, music and other individualized therapies. Validation Therapy—Developed by Naomi Feil for older people with cognitive impairments and dementia. This practice encourages our staff to listen with empathy, which helps in reducing anxiety and enhances dignity.

Reminiscent Activities – draws attention to the long-term memory by utilizing song, picture books, puzzles drawings and more.

Support Groups are vital to the success of our care.  Our support groups are designed to provide education, guidance and a network to help guide family and friends through the progression of the disease. Contact our facilities for dates of our next groups.
